Meta recently introduced Meta AI in WhatsApp. This feature lets users chat with the company’s generative AI chatbot and generate images based on commands, bringing a ChatGPT-like experience into WhatsApp.
Meta AI has already become popular in WhatsApp groups, with the ability to generate images from prompts from various users in the group. Now, Meta is testing a new feature for Meta AI, where users can send photos to Meta AI and make changes to it.
This feature was spotted by WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.20 update. Here’s the screenshot of the pop-up detailing this new feature:
The screenshots show that Meta AI chat includes a new camera icon button letting users upload images from their devices. Currently, Meta AI chat doesn’t have any camera icon.
The screenshot also shows that Meta AI can tell users more about what’s in the image, similar to the ChatGPT feature, where the chatbot explains what’s in the image.
However, Meta AI is going one step forward with the ability to manipulate the image users upload, which has yet to be implemented by competitors ChatGPT or Gemini. It is unclear what Meta AI can edit in the photos and how exactly this edit option works in Meta AI.
The screenshot also mentions that photos sent to Meta AI will be analysed, especially the facial features. This might be an exercise to get more training data for Meta’s LlaMA model, but Meta notes that photos can be deleted anytime.
These new Meta AI features aren’t available for everyone yet. They’re currently available for select WhatsApp Beta users on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.20.
