WhatsApp is rolling out a new update for Android beta users through the Google Play Store. This adds a new voice message transcripts feature to the app and was spotted first by folks at Wabetainfo.
WhatsApp Voice Transcripts
The few users who have installed the WhatsApp beta with the version 2.24.15.5 have started receiving the transcripts feature. The other WhatsApp beta users who haven’t received the update will soon receive the voice transcript feature.
WhatsApp aims to improve accessibility and convenience for all users by enabling voice message transcription. The transcription feature will work for both incoming and outgoing voice messages.
Users will be required to download an additional package for the transcription service. The transcriptions will be generated and stored on the device to ensure user privacy.
According to the report, WhatsApp is currently offering voice transcripts in English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi.
The Meta-owned giant is expected to support more languages in the future. Voice transcripts will also be a lifesaver for users who work in loud environments, allowing them to read the contents of a voice message. Introducing voice transcripts will also allow users to hear a long voice clip and create a summary.
Transcription also allows people with hearing impairments to understand the contents of a voice message. WhatsApp could officially announce the transcription feature in the coming weeks.
