WhatsApp was found testing custom chat themes on iOS and user names on Android. Now, WABetaInfo has unearthed new developments in the custom chat feature with more themes and colours in the latest WhatsApp update for iOS. Let’s take a look at what has changed.
WhatsApp for iOS Beta Gets New Custom Chat Theme Options
In the previous report, WABetaInfo found that WhatsApp is working on Instagram-like themes to set separate interfaces for each contact or group. This will allow users to have a personalised messaging experience. At that time, there were around ten preset themes. The company is now expanding on the feature with more preset themes and colours to choose from.
According to the latest report, the new WhatsApp for iOS 24.20.71 brings 22 distinct themes and 20 colours for users to choose from. Users can head to Chat info within any personal or group conversation to set chat colours.
Once the chat colour has been selected, WhatsApp will automatically set a wallpaper matching the colour so that the overall aesthetics align with the chosen theme. Users can still change the wallpaper from the chat info section, which means even if two chats have the same colour theme, they will still look different thanks to the varying wallpaper.
On the other hand, preset themes are complete sets, with chat bubbles and wallpaper displayed in the preview for the user’s convenience. Users can still set a universal theme that applies to all chats from Settings > Chats > Chat Wallpaper.
The report also mentions that unlike Instagram, where the theme is applied to both the recipient and the sender, WhatsApp’s theme will be restricted to the user. This means if a user sets a particular theme for a certain contact, it will not be reflected in the recipient’s phone.
The feature is currently available for beta users but should roll out for all soon. We will have to wait for official details, though. So, stay tuned for more information.
