Highlights
  • WhatsApp now brings an in-built contact manager for saving contacts.
  • It uses a new encrypted storage system known as Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS).

WhatsApp, the Meta-owned social media giant, has announced new changes for managing contacts to ease the user experience. The blog confirms that users will be able to manage contacts on WhatsApp from any linked device. Here’s how this will work.

WhatsApp Contacts Get Major Overhaul

WhatsApp reveals that users will soon be able to save contacts from WhatsApp web or Windows, which were earlier limited to mobile phones. The messaging platform will also get support for adding contacts from other linked devices in the near future.

There will be the ability to save contacts exclusively on WhatsApp. This will allow users to separate business contacts from personal contacts on their smartphones.

The contacts will be restored even if the users change or lose their smartphones. The IPLS technology allows for swift restoration and limits access to contacts for users, enhancing privacy. The new changes are aimed at WhatsApp to bring the username feature into the near future.

The addition of usernames will enhance user privacy, making it easier to start conversations without sharing their mobile number.

The social media giant recently rolled out an update for iOS users, bringing new features like home screen widgets, camera improvements, and the ability to mention someone in Statuses.
