Google has introduced a new Speed Dial feature for YouTube Music, which provides quick access to your favourite and previously listened-to songs. It’s a revamped version of the Listen Again menu but with several improvements. The feature was originally announced in 2023 and has finally started rolling out to all users. Here are the details.
Speed Dial Your Favourite Songs in YouTube Music
The Speed Dial feature in YouTube Music is available in the Home section of the official app. It provides a glance at the top nine songs you have heard. Users can also swipe and view nine additional songs. These suggestions will be based on your listening history and the songs added to the favourites list.
The feature is similar to the Listen Again option, which had a few flaws. Previously, these songs were shown in a list or card format and users had to swipe multiple times to view more songs. The new Speed Dial option declutters this menu and shows more songs on a single screen, making navigation easier.
The Speed Dial feature has started rolling out to all users globally. It is available on the YouTube Music app on Android and iOS. However, there are no details on the availability of this feature on the web version.
The YouTube Music app’s UI is also getting a fresh coat of paint. The options available in the three-dotted menu are now smaller, making more options accessible in one-handed usage, especially on phones with larger screens. Some other UI elements have also been refreshed and the app now provides a quick option to connect to external speakers.
While these changes are not that major compared to the new Speed Dial feature, the YouTube Music app has been constantly receiving refinement updates. The new refinement changes and affordability of the YouTube Premium subscription are helping YouTube Music gain more popularity against its competitor Spotify.
