Spotify is the second third-party app to get Google Gemini extension support after WhatsApp. The Spotify Gemini extension is limited to search and play functions. Currently, it’s only available on Android devices compatible with Gemini Assistant. Here’s everything you need to know about Spotify Gemini extension on Android.
Spotify Gemini Extension Rolls Out With Search and Play Functions
The Spotify Gemini extension will be exclusive to Android users, which means iPhone users will not be able to benefit from it. Android users must connect their Spotify account with Google account to use the Gemini extension for Spotify. Once done, users can head to the Gemini app’s Extensions section and toggle on the Spotify option.
Once connected, users can use Gemini apps to play or search for music on Spotify. Users can ask Gemini to look up music by category, such as song, album, artist, playlist, and more. According to the official Google Support page for Gemini, the Spotify Gemini extension needs Gemini’s language to be set to English and the Gemini Aps Activity setting to be on.
Moreover, the support page mentions that if users have connected to multiple music services and don’t specify one in their prompt, the last-used music service will be picked. Users will have to mention the music service in their prompt to use a specific one. For example, users can say Play [song name] by [artist name], or Search for the song that goes [lyrics] on Spotify.
As of now, the Spotify Gemini extension is limited to searching for music and playing music on the platform. It cannot perform tasks like creating a Spotify playlist or playing a radio channel. Google has announced that the extension is rolling out, and we expect it to be available to all users globally in the coming weeks.
