Google has rolled out the "Undo Device Backup" option for Google Photos users worldwide. This will help you declutter Google Photos without removing the photos and videos from your device, a feature that will make things a lot easier. Here’s how to use it.
Google Photos Brings Undo Device Backup Option
The "Undo Device Backup" option is designed for users who no longer wish to back up their photos to the cloud. Previously, turning off device backup in Google Photos also deleted the backed-up photos and videos from the smartphone.
The only workaround was to delete the backed-up media using any desktop. The new feature will allow users to free up storage on their Google Drive without any additional steps.
It will allow deleting photos and videos from the Google Photos backup without removing them from their smartphone.
How to Enable Undo Device Backup on Google Photos
Here are the steps to enable the "Undo Device Backup" option.
- On the Google Photos app, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
- Choose Google Photos settings and then the Backup menu.
- Scroll and select the ‘Undo backup for this device’ option.
- Tick the box next to ‘I understand my photos and videos from this device will be deleted from Google Photos.‘
- Select the Delete Google Photos backup.
Once done, the photos and videos will remain on the device even after turning off the backup on a specific smartphone. Google added the feature is currently available to iOS users. Android smartphone users will also receive the new feature in the coming weeks.
