WhatsApp is working on introducing AI-powered features in its platform. After adding an integrated Meta AI Chatbot and AI-generated profile pictures, the Meta-owned company is testing yet another AI-powered media-sharing option for its users.
WhatsApp watchdog WABetaInfo has spotted the new AI-powered image-sharing feature in the latest beta update. Users will soon be able to share creative images in chats with simple prompts.
WhatsApp to Offer AI-Powered Images in Chats Soon
WhatsApp seems to be doubling down on its efforts to integrate AI features into its platform. According to the publication, the feature is listed as AI-powered images in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.4 update. The publication has also shared a screenshot of the feature revealing that a new button will be added to the media sharing tray in chat windows.
As you can see in the screenshot above, users will need to click on the ‘+’ button to the left of the message bar to initiate the new feature. The feature is shown in a group in the screenshot, but we can assume that it will work in personal chats as well.
When users click on the + button, they will see a new Imagine button in addition to the usual array of options. The feature will use Meta AI to convert users’ prompts into AI-generated images. However, Meta AI is currently available in a select few regions to limited users, so the AI-powered images will be initially available to those who already have access to Meta AI.
This feature will save users a lot of time and effort when conveying an idea or message. It will also allow users to send personalised and unique images to express their moods and feelings accurately. Users can generate AI images directly within the Meta AI chat or through a command within group chats.
