YouTube is testing a new Hype feature in select regions. The latest addition is meant to help small creator boost their videos. The video-streaming platform recently started testing a Notes feature for users to add contextual information to videos. Let’s learn what this new feature is and how it works.
YouTube Hype Lets Viewers Boost Reach of Videos
As the name suggests, the new feature lets viewers hype the videos they love watching. This will help creators boost those videos so that the videos get discovered by new audiences and receive community support. The YouTube Hype feature is available for viewers in Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan.
The blog post clarifies that the Hype option will only appear for a few YouTube Partner Program creators with less than 5,00,000 followers and on videos that follow the Community Guidelines. Additionally, the option will only be available on videos posted in the last seven days.
The ‘Hyped videos’ will be displayed in an Explore section on the website. This section will be separate from the Trending section of popular videos. YouTube says that as more viewers hype a video, the more likely it is to appear in the Explore section with other hyped videos that week.
YouTube will display hyped videos in the Explore section in a high-to-low ranking. However, it is clarified that Hypes are not used as an indicator for YouTube’s search and discovery system.
There’s no word on the timeline for the global rollout of this feature. However, the company mentioned that it will gather feedback from viewers and roll out the feature to more people in the future.
