  • Bing will now provide an AI-powered summary in search results.
  • The feature is slowly rolling out to all Microsoft Bing users.

Microsoft has introduced generative AI search results in its Bing search engine. It uses AI to analyse the top search results for your query and provide a quick summary with the most relevant information. The feature works similarly to Google’s AI overviews. Bing’s AI search results will also include citations to the actual sources. Here are the details.

Bing Search Results Get a Touch of Generative AI

Microsoft has started integrating its generative AI large language models (LLMs) in its Bing search engine. When a user searches Bing, they will be presented with a quick AI-generated summary, just above the actual search results.

The summary will be specially curated based on the search query. For instance, if a user searches for a food recipe, they will be provided with a brief containing the list of ingredients and the exact steps instead of sourcing from an external website. Microsoft says this will enhance user experience, as they will have quicker access to their answers.

The AI-generated summaries will also have direct and clear citations of the source from where Bing picks up the information. In simple words, Microsoft is using the information from these external sources to create the summary instead of using the data from its LLMs. This will provide more accuracy in the answers.

AI search results in Bing will slowly start rolling out to all users starting this month. The feature is currently available to a small set of early testers. Microsoft says that the company is actively seeking feedback to improve the experience of its Bing search engine and its new GenAI features.

To recall, Google introduced AI search overviews in its search engine earlier this year. However, it faced severe backlash from all users as it contained factually incorrect information. Google had to scale down the deployment of its AI search overviews.

The search engine market has received many new updates recently. OpenAI just announced SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine. However, it is only available as a prototype and is not yet available for public access.
