WhatsApp is testing a new feature allowing users to send voice messages to the Meta AI chatbot. The feature has been spotted in the latest beta version on Android.
The Meta-owned messaging app is also developing new animated emojis, which were spotted in the latest iOS beta. Here are the details of WhatsApp’s upcoming features.
Voice Messages with Meta AI Chatbot
The latest beta of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.24.16.10, has introduced a new option which allows users to send voice messages to Meta AI. Previously, the chatbot only supported text input. The voice messages sent by users will be analyzed by Meta AI to respond.
However, Meta AI can only respond back with text-based answers. The chatbot cannot generate sound output, which is possible in the Android and iOS apps of ChatGPT by OpenAI.
The feature uses advanced speech recognition technology to accurately understand the user’s voice. If the chatbot fails to grasp the context, it will ask the user to send a new voice message. This feature is expected to make interactions with Meta AI, compared to manually typing each query.
The voice messages feature in Meta AI is rolling out to all beta users of WhatsApp on Android. It is not available on iOS yet. WABetaInfo first spotted this feature.
Animated Emojis in WhatsApp Beta for iOS
WhatsApp is also testing animated emojis in the latest beta version of the iOS app. When a user sends a single emoji icon in a message, the app will display an enlarged animated form of that emoji. As of now, only five animated emojis are being tested: the heart, wink, laughing, extreme laughing, and heart eyes.
If the user sends multiple emojis in the same message, then WhatsApp will show the regular emoji instead of an animation. This feature is currently only available to a limited set of users on the Testflight program of WhatsApp for iOS.
Meta has not publicly announced this feature yet, as social media apps must get approval from Apple to introduce new emojis in any iOS app.
