Google has officially launched Gemini Live, the next thing users can do with Gemini AI. It was announced at the annual Made by Google event, where it also unveiled the new Pixel 9 series, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Buds Pro 2.
This new AI feature is Google’s answer to the recently released ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode. It will be available on Android phones, but only for Gemini Advanced. paid subscribers. Here is everything you need to know about Gemini Live.
What is Gemini Live?
Gemini Live is a new avatar of Gemini AI with voice chat capabilities. Google describes it as a “mobile conversational experience that lets you have free-flowing conversations with Gemini.”
In this mode, users can interrupt Gemini’s responses and share their input for added information, similar to what happens in real-world human conversations. Gemini Live conversations can also be paused mid-way and resumed later. This is probably why Google added “Live” to the name, representing the voice chat mode.
Gemini Live: What It Can Do?
Google says Gemini Live can be used for all sorts of conversations, like asking for a suggestion and brainstorming ideas. It supports hands-free mode, where the Gemini will keep running in the background even when the phone is locked. This allows users to keep engaging with the assistant and converse as they would on a normal phone call.
When using Gemini Live for the first time, the user will be asked to choose from 10 voice options. Each voice has a different tone and style and can always be changed through settings.
Since it is a Google offering, Gemini will integrate with various Google apps and services. In the coming weeks, new extensions will be released for Keep, Tasks, Utilities, and YouTube Music. This will allow users to get tasks done by asking Gemini instead of opening the app and manually looking for a particular thing.
The team is working on a Calendar extension that will make checking your schedule easier and adding new events. It is unknown when it will arrive, but it is said to be coming soon.
Gemini Live is simply a voice chat mode for a more natural and free conversation.
Gemini Live Availability
Gemini Live is currently available only for Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android. This means users will have to pay for the new voice chat mode. The new feature is also exclusive to the English language and is accessible from the Gemini app released a few months ago.
Google has begun rolling out Gemini Live on eligible devices like Pixel and Samsung. It may take a few weeks before it becomes available for everyone. It will be expanded to iOS and other languages, but no specific timeline has been shared yet.
