Google has officially rolled out its Search AI Overviews features for all users in India. Apart from India, the feature is now available in the UK, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. Before this, the feature was available to those who signed up for the Google Labs version in beta. For the uninitiated, AI Overviews offers a quick topic overview with links to learn more in Google Search.
Google Search AI Overviews Rolls Out Officially in India
Google showcased the AI Overviews at its I/O 2024 event earlier this May. At that time, the feature was only available in the US. It has now rolled out to six new countries, including India.
According to the official blog post, AI Overviews is rolling out in India in English and Hindi. The language toggle button on top allows users to switch between English and Hindi results easily. Additionally, a Listen button enables users to listen to responses.
According to Google, people prefer using Search with AI Overviews, and Indian users, in particular, use AI Overview responses more often than users in other countries. Google Search AI Overviews shows search results with concise summaries and relevant links at the top of the search page.
The new feature enables users to search complex questions instead of breaking up search queries into multiple strings of queries. Now, the company has added more ways to check out relevant sites by adding relevant site links in a new right-hand link display for AI Overviews on the desktop.

Google Assures Superior Information Quality Amidst The Inaccuracy Controversy
Since its launch earlier this year, Google Search’s AI Overviews has had a controversy-marred rollout. Users complained of several inaccuracies in the information provided, such as identifying former US President Barack Obama as a Muslim.
Following these erroneous overviews, Google restricted queries that may trigger AI-generated responses and user-generated content from websites like Quora or Reddit. However, in its latest blog, the company assures users that AI Overviews are now based on Google’s core quality and safety systems honed over decades.
The search giant also stressed its commitment to display high-quality and reliable information with “a focus on maintaining Search’s high bar for information quality.”
