Amazon has launched its new AI-powered shopping assistant in India called Rufus. The feature works as a chatbot that helps users explore new products on the e-commerce platform. It can also answer questions and provide buying suggestions to customers based on their requirements using generative AI. Here’s everything that you should know about Amazon Rufus.
Amazon Rufus: What does It Mean?
Amazon Rufus is an AI-powered chatbot that makes it easier for customers to shop and research various products on the Amazon marketplace. The feature is similar to ChatGPT, Gemini, etc., where a user can ask any question about a product they want to purchase. It can also provide buying guides to the user by curating a list of the best-rated products on the platform.
Here are some examples of queries which customers can ask to the Rufus chatbot on Amazon:
- Which is the best vacuum cleaner under Rs 15,000?
- How much warranty does this vacuum cleaner have?
- Show me a list of the best sofa covers for a six-seater couch
- What products should I buy for a 10-day camping trip in the mountains?
- Is a 40-inch TV suitable for viewing from a 10-foot distance?
Rufus can also answer questions by using the context of the ongoing conversation. It works like an AI chatbot, but the functionality is limited to shopping on the Amazon portal.
Amazon has started rolling out Rufus in India under a beta program for a few users. The feature is available on the official Amazon app on Android and iOS. Its availability on the web version is not known yet.
Rufus has been active in the United States for a while now. The company mentions that users in the US were satisfied with the chatbot’s shopping guidance. Amazon says that Rufus will similarly help Indian customers amplify their shopping experience.
Amazon also said that the company has been using AI for product suggestions for over a decade. The conversational interactions of the new Rufus chatbot will further improve this model.
