Ahead of the new year’s eve, WhatsApp is testing a new feature to make its platform festive. According to the latest spotting by WABetaInfo, you can send confetti reactions to New Year wishes and other festive messages from their contacts. Here’s everything you need to know about the new WhatsApp’s dynamic animated party reactions in chats.
WhatsApp Users Will Soon Be Able to Send Animated Confetti Emoji Reaction in Chats
The new animated confetti emoji reaction has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.25.10.78 update. Interested users can download the latest update using the TestFlight app on their iPhones. The new feature has arrived for beta testers just in time for Christmas 2024 and new year 2025.
As you can see in the image embedded above, users can long press on any message to bring up the reaction contextual menu. WhatsApp has added new options to this reaction menu in the latest beta update for iOS users. These include the Party Popper, Partying Face, and Confetti Ball emojis.
WhatsApp is adding animation to emoji reactions used to mark moments of joy and celebration, a way of telling users that it cares about the entire user experience. According to WABetaInfo, the animations are powered by Lottie, an open-source animation framework used to create lightweight and high-quality animations for mobile apps.
The framework allows WhatsApp to implement smooth, scalable animations while maintaining small file sizes. This ensures the app remains efficient and performs well even with complex visual effects like the confetti effect with high-quality animation.
This feature is currently available to both Android and iOS beta users. However, the publication reports that it has also been rolled out to certain users on the latest stable version available on the App Store. We expect it to roll out to all users very soon since the new year 2025 is just around the corner.
