After testing AR stickers for a long time on Beta versions, WhatsApp is bringing the much-awaited AR stickers feature to all iOS users. With the new AR Stickers feature, iPhone users can enjoy extended filters, effects and backgrounds. Here’s everything you need to know about AR Stickers on WhatsApp for iOS.
AR Stickers on WhatsApp for iOS
WhatsApp has been testing the AR stickers for video calls option on WhatsApp Beta on iOS for some time now, and it is finally rolling out to the latest stable version of WhatsApp for iOS. Here’s how it works on WhatsApp for iOS:
Tapping the wand button beside the shutter button reveals the AR effects option. The first option is the Filters option, which lets users enable various effects such as Happy 2025, Warm, Cool, B&W, Light Leak, Vintage TV and more. These filters change the appearance of a user in a call.
There’s the Effects section that can be used to apply animated effects like confetti, add stars, throw a goof face, puppy face, and more. The third is the Backgrounds filter, with which users can blur the background in video calls, or change the background to a set of available background images like living room, office, café, beach and more.
There’s also a Touch Up Mode, situated at the top right of the camera interface, which enhances facial features by smoothing skin tones and reducing the face’s imperfections. Additionally, there’s a Low Light Mode, which adjusts brightness and contrast to improve the visibility of users under low light conditions.
This feature was spotted first by WABetaInfo, and it is available on WhatsApp for iOS version 24.25.93, the latest update of the app available on the App Store. Users can update WhatsApp on their iPhones to the latest version to receive this update. However, some users might not receive this update even if the app is updated to the latest version and might have to wait.
WhatsApp also introduced the ability to scan documents right from chats on WhatsApp for iOS. This feature can be found under the Attach Documents option in a WhatsApp chat, and upon tapping it, users can capture the image of documents using the device camera. After capturing the image, WhatsApp will adjust the margins of the documents automatically, which users can easily modify. Once the user confirms the margins, the scanned copy of the document will be shared in the chat or group chat.
It works similarly to several document scanning apps like CamScanner, Adobe Scan or Notebloc.
