Google is all set to host its I/O event of the year, its annual developer conference. The event will begin with a keynote, during which the company will announce its latest Android, AI, and other developments. While the company has not revealed many details, here’s everything we expect from Google’s I/O 2024 event.
Google I/O 2024: Date, Time, and Where to Watch
Google I/O 2024 will begin on Tuesday, May 14, at 10:30 PM IST and take place at Shoreline Amphitheatre in California. The event will be live-streamed on Google’s website and its official YouTube Channel.
Advancements in AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be the key focus for I/O 2024. After all, during the last I/O event in 2023, the term ‘AI’ was used over 150 times during the keynote. This year won’t be any different. Google executives are expected to focus on how the company is combining Search and generative AI.
Furthermore, the tech giant is also said to showcase plans to make smartphones more AI-focused devices. This means we could get more AI features directly embedded in the OS itself.
Google might also unveil its much-anticipated personalised digital assistant, “Pixie.” This AI assistant, backed by Google’s Gemini tech, could integrate innovative multimodal features. Imagine snapping a picture of an unfamiliar object and having Pixie instantly explain its function or guide you to a nearby store that sells it.
Android 15
While AI will be the centre of attraction, Google will also announce its latest Android iteration, the ‘Android 15’. Currently in beta, Android 15 boasts several user-centric improvements. We can expect a focus on productivity with app archiving to declutter your phone, enhanced privacy through end-to-end encryption for contacts, and broader support for satellite connectivity.
What About New Pixel Smartphones?
Google I/O is traditionally a platform to showcase upcoming software features and is geared towards developers. We are not expecting any new smartphone or other hardware releases at this event. Besides, the company has already unveiled its latest “Mid-Ranger”, the Pixel 8a, in the global market, including India.
However, at the end of the keynote, we could expect a teaser for the upcoming Pixel 9 lineup or Google’s next foldable smartphone.
