OpenAI has introduced a new agent in ChatGPT, called Deep Research. It’s designed to tackle complex, multi-step tasks in record time—what would normally take human hours, Deep Research can breeze through in just minutes. Here’s the lowdown on this productivity powerhouse.
What is Deep Research?
Deep Research, the latest agent in ChatGPT, is here to do all the heavy lifting for you. Just give it a prompt, and it’ll find out the online sources to analyse and synthesise the information.
Fueled by OpenAI’s o3 model, it’s made for web browsing and data crunching. It’s so good, it can even break down PDFs on the Internet. The idea is to take existing knowledge and turn it into something new.
How to Use Deep Research?
Right now, only Pro users get access to the new Deep Research agent. You’ll find it in the message composer of ChatGPT—just select it, drop your query in, and feel free to attach Google Spreadsheets too. It’ll sift through online knowledge, analyse any images or information you provide, and even show a handy sidebar with a breakdown of the steps taken and sources used—because transparency is key.
As for how long it takes, there’s no fixed time. It could be anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how tricky the question is. But once it’s done, you’ll get a notification. And soon enough, OpenAI will let you add images, data visualisations, and other useful info to the reports for that extra “wow” factor.
What are the Limitations?
At the moment, calling this agent “the best AI tool for complex tasks” might be a bit premature. It’s still in its early days, and yes, it comes with a few hiccups. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations,
“Deep Research can sometimes hallucinate facts or make incorrect inferences, but at a much lower rate than current ChatGPT models.”
It’s refreshing that OpenAI has been upfront about these growing pains right from the start. But don’t worry—over time, these quirks should improve with regular use.
What are the Future Plans?
By the end of this month, Deep Research will be making its way to both mobile and desktop apps. Soon, users will also be able to tap into more specialised data sources—think subscription-based or internal resources—making the output even more powerful and tailored.
OpenAI’s big plan is to handle the research and complex tasks that would make humans wish for a clone. Over time, this agent will keep getting better, and we’ll be here to track every update. So, don’t wander off—keep your eyes on MySmartPrice!
