YouTube says the new Premium subscription rates will come into effect in October 2024. Users will receive an email confirming their plan renewal under the new rates. If they do not respond to the email, their YouTube Premium membership will be cancelled. Users with a prepaid annual plan will have to renew their subscription at the new rates after the validity of their existing plan expires.
India is not the only region where YouTube has hiked rates. Last year, the Google-owned streaming giant raised the prices of its subscriptions in the United States by up to 25%. Last week, the rates were also hiked in Malaysia and other South East Asia regions.
YouTube does not take these decisions lightly. The new rates have been implemented to support YouTube creators and improve the streaming platform’s overall experience.
