WhatsApp is planning to bring AR features for calls to iOS. These features have been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.17.10.74, available on the TestFlight beta program. To recall, Android beta users recently received AR features for audio and video calling as part of the 2.24.13.14 update.
WhatsApp is Testing AR Calling Features on iOS
A recent report by WABetaInfo suggests that the AR calling features are currently available to a limited set of users. The new beta update for iOS brings an overhauled calling UI with integrated AR features. We can expect the integration of AR avatars too.
In the screenshot shared (pictured above) by WABetaInfo, we can see a calling interface similar to what we already saw on Android. At the top, we can see the low-light and touch-up modes. The former will let you enhance the lighting quality of video calls in dimly lit conditions. On the other hand, the touch-up mode will help you add changes to your facial features and skin quality for a polished look in video calls.
At the bottom of the call screen, there are two options: filters and background. The first option can help you customize your appearance in real time with several colour tones. The background feature will help you choose from blurred or preset backgrounds offered by the instant messaging platform.
These AR filters and features will be useful for business owners and employers who host client calls and meetings on WhatsApp. For casual users, these features add an element of interactive fun to the calling experience on WhatsApp. While there’s no official confirmation yet, we can expect these features to roll out to general users in the coming weeks.
