WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature to manage contacts syncing across multiple accounts and linked devices. Notably, WhatsApp introduced support for multiple WhatsApp accounts on the same phone last year. With the new feature spotted by WABetaInfo, users can manage how the address book contacts are synced to the phone for each account.
WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Manage Contact Syncing
WaBetaInfo spotted the new contact sync management feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.18.14 update. According to the screenshot shared by the website, the new feature can keep contacts separate for each account that users have registered on their phones.
This feature is helpful for those who use separate WhatsApp accounts for work and personal life. They can choose to disable contact syncing from the work account to keep it separate from the personal one. Moreover, if the user turns off contact syncing, WhatsApp will let users manually sync each contact in the future.
This means users will have more granular control over contact syncing between their accounts. They can sync a few contacts without importing the entire address book. The synced contacts will also become available on all linked devices for convenient access.
Additionally, the synced contacts will be securely backed up when the new contact backup option is enabled from Privacy Settings. This will restore manually synced contacts when users link a new device to their account or reinstall the app.
The report also adds that users can remove any old contacts they are no longer in touch with. The feature is currently in testing, and we expect it to roll out widely in the coming months.
