Instagram has finally fixed the issue that has frustrated users for a long time. This supposed issue tends to refresh the feed and show you the latest or trending content according to the algorithm. Adam Mosseri confirmed that this app behaviour was intentional but has now been removed. Here’s what you need to know.
Instagram Will Not Abruptly Refresh Your Feed Anymore
If you are an avid Instagram user, you must be familiar with this scenario: You open Instagram and see a fascinating post or Reel on your feed but a split second later, the video vanishes as the feed automatically refreshes, leaving you frustrated and trying to remember which account that post was from. To make things worse, it’s nearly impossible to find the exact post using Instagram’s search function, even if you describe it exactly.
Users long speculated that the feature was a bug as they believed the app was stuck in the background and merely restarting. However, in his AMA on Instagram, Adam Mosseri confirmed that the behaviour was intentional.
Calling it Rug Pull, Mosseri said that the app was doing it to load new content, which was taking longer. To cover up the delay in loading content, Instagram showed users some content that had already been downloaded for engagement.
Mosseri goes on to say that this was annoying and was hampering the user experience on the platform, so it has been removed.
Now, the app will wait for the user to scroll before refreshing the feed. Mosseri says the platform has taken an engagement hit because of this but the result is a much better user experience.
