After introducing DM filters for creators, Instagram is now rolling out new features for general users. The company has taken to its official blog to announce three new updates to Instagram DM. These features will improve users’ experience while connecting with friends in their DMs. Let’s check out these new features.
Instagram Updates DM With New Stickers, Location Sharing, And More
The official blog mentions that the latest update brings 17 new sticker packs, an updated DM sticker tray, nicknames for users and their crew, and location sharing to Instagram DM. Users can now express themselves better with over 300 new stickers offered by the new sticker packs. Moreover, Instagram will allow users to mark any sticker in the chat as a favourite and reuse stickers shared by friends.
Instagram is also helping users hang out better with location sharing in DM. According to the announcement, users can now share their location with friends for up to one hour in 1:1 or group chats. It also lets users pin a spot on the map to coordinate arrival times and activities or find each other in crowded spaces, which makes it perfect for gatherings with friends like concerts, outings, or reunions.
Instagram assures that the location will be shared only with the recipients in the specific chat and cannot be forwarded to others. Moreover, Instagram will show an indicator on top of the chat to let users know that their location is being shared. The feature is currently available only in select few countries.
Lastly, users will now be able to customise names across DM inboxes by adding nicknames for themselves or friends. These nicknames will only appear in chats and won’t change the IG handles. Instagram says that users will have control over who can change their nicknames in chats. By default, it’s set to allow people users to follow, but it can also be changed to only users.
Nicknames can be changed by tapping on the chat name at the top of the window and then on Nicknames. From here, users can tap on the username of the person they want to create a nickname for in the chat. If the person has a nickname setting enabled for people who follow them, the nickname will reflect in the chat.
