WhatsApp is testing an online counter for group chats, which will show the number of people online in a group chat. The messaging app is also working on a message reminder feature. Here’s everything you need to know about these new and upcoming WhatsApp features.
Online Counter for Group Chats on WhatsApp
WhatsApp is testing the online counter feature for group chats, which shows the number of people currently online in a group. This feature has been a long-time staple of Telegram and works similarly.
The online counter appears on the top bar of group chats and just below the group name. It is worth noting that the number of participants shown as currently online does not include users who have turned off online status visibility in their privacy settings.
WABetaInfo spotted this new feature on the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.25.30. Users can update to the latest WhatsApp beta version via the Play Store to receive this update but it is to be noted that not everyone on the latest beta version will be able to access this feature, as it is currently under testing.
We can expect the feature to be released for the stable version of WhatsApp soon.
Message Reminders
WhatsApp is also testing another feature on beta versions – message reminders. Previously, WhatsApp allowed users to get reminder notifications for status updates a user hasn’t seen. Now, it is expanding the feature to unread messages as well. Take a look at how the new feature looks compared to the previous one:
WABetaInfo spotted this feature on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.25.29, and WhatsApp could be rolling out this feature to more users on the beta and stable channels soon. We will keep you posted when there are more details, so, stay tuned.
