Highlights
  • Instagram’s Trial Reels will allow users to test a Reel with a limited audience before posting it publicly.
  • Creators can get insights on how the Reel is performing in 24 hours.

Instagram has introduced another new feature for creators called Trial Reels, after the recent creator-focused DM filters and interactive broadcast channel features. The feature will help creators test the efficacy of their new posts. Let’s check out what the new feature does and how it works.

Instagram Trial Reels Announced to Help Creators

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced a new feature called Trial Reels in his latest post on the platform. According to Mosseri, the new feature is designed to let creators know how a Reel will perform before posting it for everyone who follows them and the general audience on the platform.

Creators will soon receive a pop-up notification on the platform asking them to try out content with a new audience. The feature will allow creators to show a trial reel to non-followers to get early feedback on whether the new content resonates with the audience. Creators can see key insights about how the Reel performs within 24 hours of sharing it.

According to the post, Instagram doesn’t show trial Reels on users’ feeds, but some followers might still see them if someone shares them. Creators and users can see a new Trial toggle when sharing a reel, and turning it on will share the content as a trial reel.

While trial reels are not shared with followers, those that get a lot of views in the first 72 hours will automatically be shared with everyone. If they are not shared automatically, users can still check insights like views, likes, comments, and sends to decide whether or not they want to share with everyone.

If they are satisfied with the metrics, they can tap the “Share to everyone” button in the insights tab to post the reel publicly. Mosseri says the new feature has been designed to depressurize the experience of sharing reels and make it fun for creators. This feature will allow creators to experiment with new ideas and figure out what’s working and what’s not.
